Blocking spam

How do I block incoming spam?

Runbox Spam Filter

Runbox uses a superior spam filter, consisting of a unique combination of SpamAssassin, a point based spam scoring system widely used by many services, and the trainable, statistical anti-spam filter Dspam.

You can activate this on the Manager:Filter page, and it is very easy to use. You have the choice of rejecting email thought to be spam, or sending it to a certain folder in your webmail. By default, only the regular spam filter (SpamAssassin) is activated, since the trainable filter (Dspam) requires the user to actively train it, to become useful.

Disposable addresses

Be very careful in publishing your email address on the internet, and use a disposable address when you do. A disposable address is a "sub-adresses" on the format username+suffix@runbox.com. This is handy if you want to use your email address somewhere without attracting spam to your Runbox account.

For instance, if your username is "joe" you can receive email at "joe+work@runbox.com" and "joe+some-website@runbox.com". If you receive spam sent to one of your disposable addresses, you can set up a filter that sends email to that address to your Spam folder. It is also easy to know where your address was collected from.
